About this model
The Monessen Artisan IFT 2.0 is a vent-free linear gas fireplace in four widths, natural gas or propane. Monessen's installation manual lists it under ANSI Z21.11.2, "Unvented Room Heaters," tested and approved as supplemental room heat or as a decorative appliance. It is not intended for use as a primary heat source. No chimney or vent run is required.
Why vent-free changes the project
A direct-vent fireplace needs a sealed vent path to an exterior wall or roof. Vent-free removes the vent run, which is what makes it possible in interior walls, finished rooms and renovations where a vent path was ruled out. It still needs a gas line run by a licensed gas professional, and an unswitched 110–120 VAC supply to the appliance.
What's in the box and optional extras
- The appliance, with deflector glass and two anchoring screws
- Crushed glass media — four bags with the 42" and 48", five bags with the 60". The media covers the burner and floor of the firebox, so it is part of the install, not an add-on.
- A 7¼" non-combustible board, which the manual says must be used at the top of the appliance
- RC450 remote — 48", 60" and 72" only
- Installation and owner's manuals
The 42" ships without a remote and without LED lights. The manual: "The AVFL42 appliances ship without a remote and LED lights." Both are optional on the 42": the IFT2-RC450 remote ($269) and the IFT2-AVFL42LED light kit ($549). The manual's contents list does not state the glass bag count for the 72"; we confirm it on the order.

Optional
Trim kits (AVFL…TKI), Contemporary fronts in satin black or veined copper (AVFL…CFSB / CFVC), a driftwood log set (CDLS), a stone kit and alternate glass colours. None is required to install or run the fireplace. Call and we will confirm the right part numbers for your size.
Before You Order
- Local code. Vent-free appliances are restricted in some jurisdictions. Check your local code before you order — or call us and we will help you find out. In Massachusetts, the manual requires installation by a licensed plumber or gas fitter.
- Not for bedrooms or bathrooms. The installation manual: "DO NOT install this appliance in a bedroom or bathroom."
- Room size and combustion air. The manual uses the National Fuel Gas Code definition: a space with less than 50 cubic feet per 1,000 BTU/hr of input is a "confined space." Rooms connected to the fireplace room through openings without doors count toward that volume. A confined space, or a house of unusually tight construction, is not ruled out, but the heater may only be installed there if adequate combustion and ventilation air is provided. Example: the 42" natural gas model at 34,000 BTU/hr needs 1,700 cubic feet to count as unconfined — a 15 ft × 14 ft room with an 8 ft ceiling is 1,680, so an open doorway to the next room would take it over.
- Front clearance. The manual says not to install it where curtains, furniture or other flammable objects are less than 36" from the front, in high-traffic areas, or in windy or drafty areas.
- Moisture. The manual: "Unvented appliances emit moisture into the living area." In houses of extremely tight construction, Monessen recommends additional mechanical ventilation.
- Altitude. Above 2,000 ft, input is reduced 4% for every 1,000 ft.
- Fuel. Natural gas and propane are separate models — choose the one that matches the gas at the property.

Will this fit my wall?
The dimensions on the page are the appliance body; framing and rough-opening sizes are different numbers and come from the manufacturer's installation manual linked on the page. Call or text (814) 440-4817 with your wall width and height and we'll confirm the right size before you order.
Do I need a professional to install it?
Gas appliances: yes, a licensed gas installer, and most jurisdictions require a permit and inspection. Electric fireplaces are simpler but hardwired models need an electrician. We don't install — we supply the manufacturer's installation manual and clearance specs so your installer and inspector have what they need.
What's included, and what do I need to add?
Each product page lists what ships in the box. Log sets, glass media, decorative fronts, mantels and venting kits are usually separate items — tell us what look you want and we'll put the complete build on one quote so it ships together where possible.
Is freight included, and how long until it arrives?
Freight is included to the 48 contiguous states, with liftgate delivery and no surcharges at checkout. Your order typically ships in 1-3 business days, and most deliveries arrive in 1-2 weeks from your order. We provide tracking once it ships, and the carrier calls to schedule delivery. Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories and international are quote-only — call before ordering.
What happens if it arrives damaged?
Look the crate over before you sign, write any damage on the delivery receipt (even "box damaged"), take a couple of photos, and contact us right away. For damage you find after unboxing, contact us as soon as you see it. We'll take it up with the distributor and manufacturer.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, if it's unused, unassembled and in the original packaging. Approved returns carry a 20% restocking fee and the customer covers return freight unless the return is due to our error or a defect — on a large freight item that is real money, which is exactly why we check the size and setup with you before you order.
