American Hearth Supply carries three Napoleon gas fireplace lines: the Napoleon Elevation X (EX36 and EX42), the Napoleon Vector (LV38, LV50, LV62 and LV74) and the Napoleon Tall Vector (TLV50, TLV62 and TLV74). The Napoleon Elevation X is a vertical format for narrow walls and corners, the Napoleon Vector is a linear format in single-sided or see-through, and the Napoleon Tall Vector is a linear format with taller glass and a see-through option. Every figure below comes from the installation manual for that exact model (Napoleon W415-2000 for the Elevation X, W415-2034 for the Vector and W415-4121 for the Tall Vector), and a figure a manual does not publish is marked "not published."

Which Napoleon gas fireplace models does American Hearth Supply carry?
American Hearth Supply carries the Napoleon Elevation X in two sizes, the Napoleon Vector in four sizes and the Napoleon Tall Vector in three sizes. The Napoleon Vector comes single-sided or see-through, and the Napoleon Tall Vector comes single-sided or see-through.
The Napoleon Elevation X EX36 and EX42 suit a wall where height is available and width is not, and the Napoleon Elevation X installation manual W415-2000 prints framing for a corner installation (p. 21). The Napoleon Vector suits a wide, low wall or a divider wall when the see-through version is chosen. The Napoleon Tall Vector keeps the Napoleon Vector widths and raises the glass opening from 18 5/8" to 26 13/16" (W415-2034 p. 12; W415-4121 p. 12).
Are Napoleon gas fireplaces room heaters?
No. The Napoleon Elevation X, Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector are certified to CSA 2.22 and ANSI Z21.50 as vented decorative gas appliances, not as room heaters. All three installation manuals state: "This appliance is a decorative product. It is not a source of heat and not intended to burn solid fuel." (Napoleon W415-2000 p. 5; W415-2034 p. 5; W415-4121 p. 5).
The Napoleon installation manuals print an input rating for each model and no heat output rating, so this guide labels the figure "maximum input" and quotes no heat output.
What size is every Napoleon gas fireplace, and what is the maximum input?
The table lists the fireplace opening, the framing size and the maximum input printed in the installation manual for each Napoleon model. Maximum input is in BTU/h, at 0 to 4,500 ft, for natural gas and propane.
| Model | Fireplace opening (W × H) | Framing width × depth | Minimum enclosure height | Maximum input, natural gas | Maximum input, propane | Manual |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

The Napoleon Elevation X opening is the fireplace opening printed in W415-2000 pp. 10 and 11, and the Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector openings are the finishing flange openings printed in W415-2034 p. 12 and W415-4121 p. 12. The Napoleon manuals state that framing or finishing materials must never encroach inside the finishing flange. The Napoleon Elevation X minimum enclosure height is the 72" minimum labelled on the framing drawings (W415-2000 pp. 20 and 22), and the Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector minimum enclosure height is dimension L, measured from the bottom of the appliance (W415-2034 p. 30; W415-4121 p. 31). Napoleon notes that some venting layouts need a larger enclosure.

How deep is the wall for a Napoleon gas fireplace?
The Napoleon Elevation X needs 22 1/4" of framing depth, the single-sided Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector need 20 1/8", and the see-through Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector need 16 3/16" (W415-2000 p. 20; W415-2034 p. 30; W415-4121 p. 31). The see-through figure is the same in both Napoleon linear lines, and the depth difference between single-sided and see-through is 3 15/16".
The Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector are framed into a purpose-built enclosure rather than an ordinary stud wall, so the Napoleon framing depth sets the thickness of the chase, the bump-out or the divider wall. The Napoleon Elevation X manual lists a minimum framing depth of 22 1/4" for both the EX36 and the EX42. The see-through gas fireplace framing guide covers the divider wall in detail.
What venting does a Napoleon gas fireplace need?
The Napoleon Elevation X, Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector are direct vent appliances, and each manual limits the total vertical plus horizontal run (V + H) to 40 ft with a horizontal run (H) of no more than 20 ft on natural gas, with a power vent required for longer runs (W415-2000 p. 17; W415-2034 pp. 19 to 22; W415-4121 pp. 19 to 22). The minimum rise before a wall termination differs by model, and the table lists the figures the manuals print.
| Model | Wall termination: minimum vertical rise | Wall termination: maximum horizontal at that rise | Manual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Napoleon Elevation X EX36, EX42 | Not published as a single figure; the "all terminations" chart marks 2 ft (24") and 3 ft (36") minimums at the base of the air collar | H of no more than 20 ft | W415-2000 p. 17 |
| Napoleon Vector, single-sided, all sizes | 30" | 18" | W415-2034 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Vector LV38, LV50, see-through | 30" | 40" (LV38), 46 1/2" (LV50) | W415-2034 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Vector LV62, LV74, see-through | 48" on natural gas; 58" for the LV74 on propane | 52 1/2" (LV62), 58 1/2" (LV74) | W415-2034 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Tall Vector, single-sided, all sizes | 22" | 18" | W415-4121 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Tall Vector TLV50, see-through | 22" | 46 1/2" | W415-4121 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Tall Vector TLV62, see-through | 40" | 52 1/2" | W415-4121 p. 16 |
| Napoleon Tall Vector TLV74, see-through | 50" | 58 1/2" | W415-4121 p. 16 |
For a roof termination, the Napoleon Vector manual and the Napoleon Tall Vector manual each call a 6 ft vertical rise "the minimum practical dimension" (W415-2034 p. 22; W415-4121 p. 22). The Napoleon Elevation X manual prints a 3 ft minimum on its vertical termination figure and requires the top of the air terminal to be 16" above the highest point where the terminal penetrates the roof (W415-2000 pp. 15 and 27). The cathedral ceiling venting guide works through a tall roof run.
What are the propane venting limits for a Napoleon gas fireplace?
The Napoleon Vector propane charts limit the horizontal run to 10 ft for the LV38 and to 4 3/8 ft for the LV50, LV62 and LV74, with V + H of no more than 40 ft (W415-2034 pp. 23 to 25). The Napoleon Tall Vector propane pages require rigid venting only (W415-4121 pp. 23 to 26), and the Napoleon Elevation X manual W415-2000 prints one "all terminations" chart (p. 17) and no separate propane chart.
The Napoleon Vector manual marks a zone on each propane chart where only a vertical termination is allowed, and the Napoleon manual states that for longer propane runs a power vent is required. Read the chart for the model and fuel before choosing a location, because the Napoleon Vector LV50, LV62 and LV74 propane horizontal limit is shorter than the natural gas limit.
What comes in the box with a Napoleon gas fireplace?
The Napoleon installation manuals for these three lines do not print a carton contents list in their front sections. The Napoleon Elevation X manual states: "This appliance does not include decorative brick panels, however, panels are required." and that panel kits are sold separately (W415-2000 p. 38).
The Napoleon Elevation X therefore needs decorative panels chosen separately. The Napoleon Elevation X manual lists the EX36 and EX42 logs in its replacement parts sections (11.3 and 11.6), and the lines reviewed do not state whether logs ship in the box, so the carton contents for the Napoleon Elevation X logs are not published in W415-2000. The Napoleon Elevation X log sets are listed on the Elevation X log set page, and the Elevation X logs and box contents guide and the gas fireplace box contents guide go through each part. The Napoleon Tall Vector is also sold with Luminous Logs as a separate product.

Which Napoleon gas fireplace fits my wall?
A Napoleon Elevation X fits a wall with height and limited width, a Napoleon Vector fits a wide, low wall or a divider wall, and a Napoleon Tall Vector fits a wide wall that takes a taller glass opening. The framing width in the table sets the first cut: the Napoleon Vector LV38 needs 53 13/16" of framing width, and the Napoleon Elevation X EX36 needs 42 3/4" (W415-2034 p. 30; W415-2000 p. 20).
The Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector at the same nominal size share the same framing width, depth and enclosure height. The Napoleon Vector LV50 and the Napoleon Tall Vector TLV50 both frame at 65 13/16" wide, 20 1/8" deep single-sided and 73" minimum enclosure height, so the choice between those two is the glass opening height of 18 5/8" or 26 13/16" (W415-2034 pp. 12 and 30; W415-4121 pp. 12 and 31). The Elevation X versus Vector comparison and the Tall Vector versus Vector comparison go further on each pairing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Napoleon Vector and a Napoleon Tall Vector?
The Napoleon Tall Vector has a 26 13/16" high glass opening, and the Napoleon Vector has an 18 5/8" high glass opening (W415-4121 p. 12; W415-2034 p. 12). The Napoleon Vector also comes in a 38" size, and the Napoleon Tall Vector starts at 50".
Can a Napoleon gas fireplace be see-through?
The Napoleon Vector and the Napoleon Tall Vector both come in a see-through version, framed 16 3/16" deep (W415-2034 p. 30; W415-4121 p. 31). The Napoleon Elevation X manual W415-2000 covers the EX36 and EX42 only and prints no see-through version.
How many BTU is a Napoleon gas fireplace?
The maximum input is 37,000 to 45,000 BTU/h on natural gas for the Napoleon Elevation X, 30,000 to 48,000 BTU/h for the Napoleon Vector and 36,000 to 48,000 BTU/h for the Napoleon Tall Vector. The Napoleon manuals do not publish a heat output rating, and the Napoleon gas fireplaces are certified as vented decorative appliances, not room heaters (W415-2000 p. 5; W415-2034 p. 6; W415-4121 p. 6).
Does a Napoleon gas fireplace need a chimney?
The Napoleon Elevation X, Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector are direct vent appliances that use a sealed vent system with a 5" exhaust pipe and an 8" air intake pipe, so none of the three needs a masonry chimney (W415-2000 pp. 10 and 11; W415-2034 p. 14). Each Napoleon manual requires the vent path to be planned before the appliance location is final.
What warranty does a Napoleon gas fireplace carry?
The Napoleon Elevation X, Napoleon Vector and Napoleon Tall Vector manuals each print the title "Napoleon Gas Appliance President's Lifetime Limited Warranty" (W415-2000 section 13.0, p. 62; W415-2034 section 16.0, p. 77; W415-4121 section 16.0, p. 77). The warranty terms are in those manuals.
Does American Hearth Supply install Napoleon gas fireplaces?
